Addressing early trauma can heal many of society’s most intractable social problems, including high rates of substance abuse and multigenerational cycles of child abuse. Florida’s Early Childhood Courts demonstrate a new statewide therapeutic approach to healing trauma and breaking the intergenerational transmission of adversity. Core components include trauma-informed judges and multidisciplinary teams, and a prominent role of infant mental health specialists as the vehicle for change and repairing the parent/child relationship. Learn how this “relationship-based approach” brings the science of early childhood adversity and resiliency to the courts to promote stable families.
